In these difficult economic times, the Friends of the Garden City Historical Museum (FGCHM) is struggling to meet our monthly financial obligations to maintain the Straight Farmhouse as a place where the public can view the history of Garden City and learn about those pioneers that came before us to create this wonderful city. Recently, we have received commitments of individuals who are willing to match up to $10,000 in donations to the Friends of the Garden City Historical Museum towards our General Operating Fund. We have been operating almost month to month since the inception of the Friends in 2004. Pledges toward this matching donation would be a tremendous help in getting on sound footing. A $20,000 nest egg in our General Operating Fund would also help us meet our overhead expenses and perform the necessary preventive maintenance on the Straight Farmhouse for several years. The deadline to submit your pledge for the dollar-to-dollar matching grant is August 31, 2011. If you pledge $5, the total donation to the Friends is $10. The Friends of the Garden City Historical Museum is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and does not receive financial support from the City of Garden City for its operation and maintenance. All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. With the recent cuts in the arts and culture programs in the schools, the Garden City Historical Museum is a valuable community resource providing the public the opportunity to learn about the city's history at no charge. Won't you please take a moment to fill out the enclosed donation card and pledge whatever you can to help us preserve our history? Thank you! |
